Fall Motorcycle Rides on the Blue Ridge Parkway

There’s nothing like cruising the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Fall. 469 stop sign- and traffic light-free miles of neverending curves and breathtaking views, are just a few reasons why so many motorcyclists ride the BRP each year. Check out some NC Blue Ridge Parkway motorcycle routes for your next Fall ride. With tons of scenic overlooks, places to stretch and relax, picnic areas and camping sites, it’s heaven on earth for any biker.

The BRP takes riding to a whole new level, but before you hit the road, keep the following safety tips in mind;

  • Wear protective gear - Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is the first and most important step you can take to insulating yourself (and your skin) from pavement, rock and cliff faces. Riders unfamiliar with mountain territory may take PPE for granted where they're from, but mountain roads are the last place you should find yourself without.
  • Slow down - If you're unfamiliar with an area slow down. Part of the draw for motorcycle riders to this area is the amazing natural beauty the mountains have to offer. Slow down and enjoy it. The maximum speed limit along the Parkway is 45 miles per hour.
  • Correct lane placement is key - Optimal lane position depends on what kind of curve you're taking, the hill you're approaching, and so on. Check out my tips on understanding the apex of a turn. However, the best and safest way to learn these techniques is by taking a rider course near you.
  • Be aware - Keep an eye out for loose gravel after rain, slippery wet leaves in the fall, tunnels and curves, and wildlife.
