Trucking / Motorcycle Accident: Attorney Robert Karney Files Suit for Sean Murphy Against Morgan Southern

Motorcycle wreck seriously injures one

MAIDEN - Sean Patrick Murphy, of 1760 N.C. 16 East, Newton, was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center Monday night after slamming his motorcycle into a tractor trailer.

According to Trooper A.K. Johnson with the state highway patrol, the accident happened around 9:15 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 321-Business and Maiden Highway.

"The tractor trailer, belonging to Texas-based Morgan Southern Inc. and operated by Charlie Melvin Sherill of Charlotte, was turning left onto U.S. 321 when the accident happened," said Johnson.

Johnson added he found Murphy lying on the ground when he arrived on the scene.

"The impact knocked the victim backwards," said Johnson. "He was unresponsive at first, but then started coming around."

Johnson said that according to paramedics at the scene, Murphy's injuries were considered life-threatening.

Johnson said that no charges are pending against either driver at this time. Also, Murphy was wearing his helmet at the time of impact, according to the trooper.

"Speed doesn't appear to be a factor in the accident," said Johnson. "The investigation is ongoing."

According to a spokesperson at Carolinas Medical Center, Murphy was listed in critical condition on Tuesday afternoon.
